Billy Gomberg - Climate

When Billy's Gomberg Climate hit my iTunes (yes I use iTunes) playlist it falls under the noise category. In fact, it deals with noises and their playfulness, but it strikes me more as an ambient piece. It merges layers of sound rather than just placing them side by side.
Overcast is an oozing nebula that daunts the listener with its floating presence. Its weather equivalent is a summer storm. But only the peace that precedes it. Down, is a full on reverb closet on steroids. A melodic figure builds up through the song but in a rather spectral way. Revolve is the busiest piece on the release. Not in a hyperactive way, but in a glitchy, off-tempo beat vibe which makes it a personal favorite. It has those deep abstract traces of this release but in a focused way. Lastly, there's Reach, an enduring flow of low frequency sounds with no origin and no destiny. They just exist and endure.
